Alice was the mother of a very large family of ten sons and four daughters . She was born on 19 June 1865 in Dunedin, the daughter of William Geary and Anna (also known as Hannah) Geary. She married Robert Clearwater on 5 July 1882 in St Mary’s Church, Portobello. Her sister Charlotte married William Geary, presumed to be Robert’s brother.
Alice and Robert had 14 children: Cecil Gordon, Francis Henry (Frank), Albert James (Bert), William Garrett (Bill), George Charles (Charlie) John Thomas (Tom), Alfred Ernest (Ernie), Edith May (Eddie), David Nelson, Robert Frederick (Bob), Alice Ann (Ann) , Ivan Hector, Isabella Hannah and Marion Christina. Robert and Alice were living in Mataura when Robert died in 1924. Alice died on 18 December 1950.
