panel 82

Panel number: 82

Petition Sheet Number: 84

Person honouring: Euphemia Stevenson

Relationship to makers: My husband Great-great-grandmother

Euphemia’s origins are uncertain. She appears in official New Zealand records with the births of her children but it is possible that she and her husband, Alexander Stevenson, had at least one child (Margaret Henderson) who may have been born in Scotland. The New Zealand born children were: Janet Taylor b.1862; Euphemia Dawson b.1865;  Andrew Cochrane b.1866; Alfred b.1869; David Dickson 1871; John Renton b.1871. Euphemia died in 1911.

In her Will, she appointed her son-in-law William Sutton (Margaret’s husband) as her Executor and left her entire estate to her granddaughter Margaret Gordon, daughter of Janet Gordon nee Stevenson.

Panel materials: Crocheted collar from my grandmother Elsie Jensen of Table Flat, made for a national Country Women’s competition. She won the crochet section that year, some 60 years ago. Camellia flowers from felt, stitching around the edges in buttonhole stitch with white and purple floss. The centres were of yellow felt and beads. I used green and purple running stitches for the 46 extra stitches. I worked Euphemia Stevenson in gold metallic thread using chain stitch.
