Ethel Therese Hofsteede came to New Zealand in 1954 from England, aged 20 years. She married and raised six daughters on a hobby, and then dairy, farm in Dunedin.
Ethel was a church server, singer in the church choir, and a volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul in Dunedin and Motueka. She was a helper in the museum and a devoted spinner, dyer, and knitter until her death in 2018.
