Born in 1876, Amy Rushin arrived on the passenger ship Arawa in 1907 having travelled from England to Wellington. The trip took four months and she came with her four-year-old daughter Olive.

She joined our Opa, Benjamin, exactly 12 months later as he began a life of farming on Rama Road, Manaia. At the age of 44 she had twin daughters – Vera and Hilda (our mother).
