Elizabeth Janet Reid made the most of opportunities offered to her in New Zealand and was the ‘mover and shaker’ in her family. She had two daughters aged five and three when she emigrated to New Zealand from Scotland, leaving behind the rest of the family.

Panel materials: White velvet ribbon from my aunt’s leftovers, pieces of tartan collected by my mother over the years, a smocked panel using a remnant of lawn, cotton lace edging from a previous sewing business, green velvet ribbon from my mother’s stash. The panel was mounted on a piece of cotton/linen sheeting from a local opportunity shop.
