Charlotte Wilson was born in Bathurst, New South Wales, in 1849. Charlotte’s mother died when she was three. She emigrated to New Zealand with her father and younger sister in 1856, and her father remarried in 1859.
Charlotte married William Ronald, a Scottish migrant, in 1868 and they had 10 children, of whom nine survived infancy. They settled on a farm at Waianiwa, Southland.
Charlotte signed the petition as the first signatory on sheet 350, as Charlotte E Ronald, Waianiwa. She died in 1913, aged 64.
Panel materials: The surface fabric is a hand-dyed silk satin, the batting is leftover NZ wool batting from a quilt project, and the backing is reused curtain waste.
