Petition sheet number: 499
Person honouring: Mary Jane Randall Pinfold
Relationship to maker: Paternal great-great-aunt
Mary Jane Randall Pinfold was my great-great-aunt. Born in 1844, she and her husband, her sisters Martha Randall Maisey and Ellen Randall Martin (my great-great-grandmother), and their husbands emigrated from East Hagbourne, Berkshire, England in the 1870s, on the Hudson.
They landed in Napier and initially settled in Woodville. At one point, all three families lived on Pinfold Road, Woodville.
I could only find Mary Jane on the suffrage petition. I would love to know why she signed the petition but my other great-great-aunt and great-great-grandmother didn’t.
Mary Jane died in 1922, aged 79 years. She and her husband, John Pinfold, are buried together in the Old Gorge Cemetery, Woodville.
Panel materials: All fabrics were sourced from Vinnies Re Sew. The pieces representing the steep sides of the gorge were lovely, rough pieces of tweed.
