Elizabeth Burton [born Foster] was in her late sixties when she travelled to New Zealand from England, after the loss of her husband to suicide. She came by steamship to be with three of her children who were already here. Her daughter, Fanny Crane, with whom she lived, also signed the 1893 petition [same sheet].

Elizabeth passed away in Whanganui, aged 88, in 1908 and was buried in the Old Wanganui cemetery.
