panel 36

Panel number: 36

Petition Sheet Number: 27

Person honouring: E Wood

Relationship to makers: Shares my surname, but I don’t know if she is a relation.

E F Wood who signed the petition is likely to be Elizabeth Francis Wood, who was married to Francis (Frank Wood). Their only son, Rex Ormond Henry Wood was killed in World War One on France on 28 July 1916 and he is buried at the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, Picardie, France. His name is incorrectly inscribed as Reginald Ormond Henry Wood. Elizabeth and Frank’s address as given in connection with the memorial was 434 Queen’s Parade, Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia. This building is still standing and is considered to have heritage value. Rex’s military records include a temporary address “17 Symonds Street, Auckland” which corresponds to the address given on the petition panel.

Panel materials: All my fabrics are from my great-great-aunt Eva’s trousseau. She never married, so her beautiful embroidery and lace were given to my grandmother, her niece. All pieces used are from her collection as far as I know. I used new embroidery threads.
