Eliza Coster was born in 1851 near Dundee, Scotland. She married Andrew Blakie, a farmer, in 1872 in Mataura, Southland.

She signed the 1893 suffrage petition at Waianiwa and was registered on electoral rolls after then.

Eliza died (aged 61) in 1913 at Spar Bush, and was buried at Wallacetown, Southland. Andrew joined her there in 1927 (aged 84).
