Minnie Gould Lloyd’s first name was Zilphar, but she hardly ever used it, not even on her headstone.

She was born in Kensington, London, in 1869 and came to New Zealand with her parents and baby brother as a four-year-old. They settled in Christchurch, and Minnie did well at school.

At the age of 22 she married James Harrow, a gasfitter, and they had four children.

Minnie was 77 when she died in 1946 and was buried at Ruru Lawn cemetery. She left a quarter of her property to each of her two daughters and a sixth each to her two sons. The balance was for her trustees [her sons] to “distribute in the direction in which they know my desires lay”.

Panel materials: I had been given some old sheets when my grandmothers passed away. I used a sheet of my Nan’s for the flowers and a pillowcase from my Granny for the base. The pattern is from a scarf my Mum gave me.
