John Mouat was born on November 12th, 1830 in Unst, Shetland Islands. He came in search of gold to Victoria in 1852 and then to Otago in December, 1861. There is no record of his marriage but his location in Dunedin suggests that the signature of Mrs J Mouat, is his wife.
