Helen Payne nee Anderson was born in Dunedin in 1870 to James Anderson, a baker, and his wife Jane. Helen married Charles Joseph Payne, a Dunedin solicitor in 1889. They had six sons and four daughters. Helen signed the petition as Mrs Payne. Helen’s great-granddaughter, Kathy Neivandt made her panel.

Panel materials: Old linen and lace from my other great-grandparents, and some scraps with a vintage theme from my quilting fabrics.The petition text and a piece of Anderson tartan were printed onto transfer fabric using my inkjet printer. The beads with two pearls representing Helen and Charles and their family came from from my late mother-in-law’s collection and the small ‘legacy’ embellishment comes from my scrapbooking supplies.
